Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu said that farmers’ welfare is the foundation for the development of a nation, and the double-engine government was committed to implementing pro-farmer programmes.
He was speaking at the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) in Guntur during the live launch of the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from New Delhi on Saturday.
The Minister said the new initiatives would boost farmers’ economic empowerment and ensure protein security through increased pulse production. He noted that projects worth ₹42,000 crore across agriculture, fisheries, and allied sectors would be launched nationwide. The Centre will promote diversified cropping in 100 districts through 30 schemes to double farmers’ income, he added.
In Andhra Pradesh, the scheme will cover Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, and Annamayya districts, focusing on post-harvest management and quality enhancement over the next six years. The government will procure pulses at minimum support price (MSP), provide high-yielding seeds, and ensure market linkages, he assured.
Mr. Atchannaidu urged farmers to diversify crops, adopt natural farming, and use export-oriented cultivation methods. Prathipadu MLA Burla Ramanjaneyulu praised Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for prioritising agriculture and implementing programmes to double farmers’ income under Vision 2047.
