Delivery partners and workers with quick commerce platforms such as Swiggy, Zepto, Blinkit, Zomato, Amazon, and Flipkart are planning a nationwide strike on December 31, with the collective action coming days after similar strikes across India on Christmas Day.

The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union posted a statement and a graphic on X, flagging issues including unsafe work conditions, low pay, 10-minute deliveries, ID blocking of workers, and the need for social security and dignity at work.

The Indian Federation Of App Based Transport Workers is also leading the workers’ action.

There is increased demand for quick deliveries and takeout on New Year’s Eve world over, as millions celebrate the holidays and plan for social gatherings. The strike also comes during a time of dangerous air pollution levels recorded in cities across North India, with residents advised to stay indoors and use air purifiers.

“We urge the Hon’ble Centre and State Labour Ministers to urgently act on gig workers’ issues—unfair payouts, unsafe 10-minute delivery models and arbitrary ID blocking. Ahead of the 31 Dec National Strike, convene an immediate meeting with unions and platforms,” stated TGPWU on X on December 28.

The union added that food and quick commerce deliveries may be disrupted on December 31.

The Gig & Platform Service Workers Union (GIPSWU) posted a letter by President Seema Singh, calling attention to demands for the rights, welfare, and dignity of gig and platform workers across India.

“All gig workers, platform workers, digital platform workers, app-based workers, and online freelancers are earnestly requested to participate in the national strike by shutting down all work-related applications and abstaining from providing services on 31 December 2025, thereby making the strike united and effective,” stated the letter.
