M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), has directed all five corporations to organise parades of PRAHARI vehicles in their respective jurisdictions and ensure that emergency response systems are fully prepared to tackle heavy rain, flooding, and related civic challenges.

Additionally, he directed the officials that all tree-cutting vehicles, machinery, and associated emergency equipment are to be inspected in detail, with commissioners required to submit a comprehensive preparedness report within one week.

Commissioners have also been instructed to inspect control rooms and ensure that all necessary arrangements, emergency systems, and staffing are fully equipped to respond effectively during heavy rains and flood situations.

Mr. Rao noted that special priority has been given to railway low-lying areas prone to flooding. City Corporation officers and Railway officials will jointly inspect each vulnerable location, coordinate necessary interventions, address waterlogging and leakage issues, and expedite pending works to minimise monsoon disruptions.

He said that feasibility assessments will be undertaken for procuring litter pickers in required numbers to strengthen sanitation systems and maintain cleanliness across the city. He has also ordered immediate cleaning, upkeep, and desilting of road medians wherever necessary to improve drainage efficiency.

Removal of dilapidated structures

For public safety, Mr. Rao said dilapidated buildings and unsafe compound structures across the city are to be identified and removed on priority.

In addition the Central City corporation has set up a committee within the corporation to identify such structures and clear them at the earliest. The committee will be responsible for identifying all such structures across the corporation.
