The Communist Party of India (CPI) has extended support to Monday’s Kalaburagi bandh call given by Kalyana Karnataka Raitha Horata Samiti against the State government for its failure to provide relief in flood-affected districts of the region.

CPI district secretary Mahesh Kumar Rathod, addressing presspersons here on Sunday, called for a peaceful bandh to see that rowdy elements or those with criminal backgrounds are kept away from the protest.

“Our purpose is to protest peacefully. We fear that some people posing as farm activists may try to defame the protestors. We need to keep a watch on the situation,” Mr. Rathod said.

Accusing the State government of completely failing to support flood victims in Kalaburagi district, the CPI members demanded that Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge intervene to ensure immediate release of relief package to address flood-affected families in the district.
