Twenty-three students of an engineering college were injured when a goods train of a private cement factory rammed a bus at an unmanned private railway crossing at Sallipatti near Velliyanai on Saturday.

The incident occurred on a private railway line owned and operated by Chettinad Cement between Veerarakkiyam and Palayam. The train, transporting goods between the factory’s plants, rammed the bus that was carrying 25 students from the college, located in Karudayampalayam. Of the 25 students, 23 sustained injuries, the police said. A portion of the bus suffered extensive damage in the impact.
