The narcotic tablets seized from the four-member gang by the Katpadi police.

The Katpadi police have arrested a gang of four persons, including siblings from Mumbai, for possession of 2,100 narcotic tablets (Tapentadol) near the Katpadi railway station here.

The arrested persons are siblings S. Nikita Hemanth, 26, and S. Girish, 27; K. Nikil Rajesh, 34; and B. Vinoth Kumar, 27. Except for Vinoth Kumar, a native of Chennai, others are from Mumbai.

Based on a tip-off, Superintendent of Police A. Mayilvaganan had formed special teams to conduct surprise checks at railway stations in the district. During one such inspection near the Katpadi railway station, a police team caught the gang members segregating tablets near a dilapidated building.

The police said the gang bought the tablets from pharmacies in Mumbai, and sold them at higher prices in Tamil Nadu. They had been tracking the suspects using their mobile phones, before cornering them in Vellore.

The arrested persons have been lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
