As many as seven members of a gang involved in fleecing devotees claiming to arrange ‘quick darshan’ at Bheemeshwaralayam in Vemulawada were detained by the police in the temple town on Friday (December 26).
Following complaints from several devotees, the police kept a vigil in the temple town and detained the members of the gang, sources said. The gang was minting money by exploiting gullible devotees in the wake of spurt in the turnout of devotees ahead of the jatara season next month.
In view of the expansion and development works of the historic Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple currently underway in Vemulawada, arrangements for darshan and arjitha sevas have been made at Bheemeshwaralayam for the benefit of devotees.
The police advised the devotees to purchase arjitha seva and prasadam tickets from the temple’s authorised sale counters.
