The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has suspended the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence of Zayaka Food Court in Kondapur and ordered the establishment to remain closed until further notice after food safety officials detected serious hygiene and food safety violations during an inspection.

Officials directed the food business operator not to resume operations until all deficiencies are rectified, a fresh inspection is conducted and the suspension of the licence is revoked.

The inspection revealed food stored in a non-functional freezer, stale chicken biryani and spoiled vegetables kept in cold storage, and egg mayonnaise stored under unsuitable conditions. The team also found a severe rodent infestation, with rat burrows, rodent damage to food packaging and rat droppings in raw material and packaging storage areas. Improper segregation of food items was observed.

The action was part of a series of inspections carried out by CMC Food Safety teams at food establishments across the Municipal limits on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).

Inspection at Vijetha Supermarket Private Limited in Tellapur

At Vijetha Supermarket Private Limited in Tellapur, inspectors found rotten fruit, poor-quality peanuts, expired food products and a bloated Frooti bottle on sale. Dead insects were observed on food racks, while fly traps were absent. Officials also found that cleaning schedules were not being maintained, manufacturing and use-by dates were not clearly visible on some products, and several oil packets were dusty and leaking. Medical fitness records of food handlers were unavailable.

The team collected samples of peanuts for laboratory analysis. The management was instructed to strengthen cleaning and sorting practices, strictly follow the First In, First Out (FIFO) system and address the deficiencies. An Improvement Notice has been recommended.

Inspection at Protein Chief in Madhapur

At Protein Chef in Madhapur, officials found inadequate cleaning and poor drain maintenance, along with an unclean freezer containing stale and unwrapped food, posing a risk of cross-contamination. Frozen food items were being thawed improperly, hot water sanitation practices were not being followed and open dustbins were placed near the cooking area. Medical fitness records of food handlers were also unavailable.

Food samples were collected from the establishment for laboratory analysis.
