A case of cholera was confirmed in a migrant worker at Kakkanad here.

The district health administration on Monday termed it as an ‘imported case.’ He is believed to have developed symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhoea, in the course of his train journey.

He was on his way back to Kochi after participating in Deepavali celebrations at his home town, according to health officials.

He was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Ernakulam. Lab tests confirmed cholera and he was administered adequate care. His condition remains stable, they said.

The district health authorities suspected that he may have consumed contaminated water or food during his train journey. They have recommended preventive and control measures at his place of stay. There was nothing to panic as the person had developed the symptoms immediately after his return and had sought treatment without delay, they said.
