A woman died in a blaze at Kamangalli, Rahmathnagar, on Sunday afternoon, while she was at her parents’ house.

The mishap occurred at around 12.20 p.m. when flames from a gas cylinder spread on the ground floor of the two-storeyed house, Madhura Nagar police said.

The deceased was identified as Sonu Bai, 40, from Dhoolpet, who had come for a family function.

Madhura Nagar Inspector H. Prabhakar said, “She got trapped near the spiral staircase area and was rendered unconscious by the flames and smoke before she could escape.”

Her parents, Gopal Singh and Lalitha Bai, suffered minor injuries, and were shifted to Gandhi Hospital. Another person named Ajay had a lucky escape.

Fire tenders reached the location and brought the blaze under control. The body of the deceased was moved to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.
