A family of four is stranded at its home in Rasoolpura Basti of Chaderghat in Hyderabad when the water levels in Musi river rose unexpectedly during the midnight of Friday (September 26, 2025). Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities and Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) forces are at the location on Saturday, monitoring the situation and attempting to provide relief.

According to officials, Mohammed Ayub and his family refused to move from their home on Friday evening when the authorities tried to evacuate residents in view of the alert from Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) about release of 35,000 cusecs of water from Osman Sagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs.

“We evacuated about 11 families from the same area, but this family refused to move out. There are others too who refused to move, but their homes had multiple floors, and they saved themselves by moving to the top floors. This family lived in single storied house,” shared Zonal Commissioner, Charminar Zone, Srinivas Reddy who is at the location monitoring the situation.

He said no rescue efforts could be made now, as the flow in the river is dangerously high. However, food relief is being provided to the stranded families through drones, he said.

Local residents alleged that they had not received any alert about the rising water levels, though authorities claim that they began rescue and rehabilitation efforts by Friday evening.

“Every time even a little water is released from Gandipet, police would come and pressure us to vacate homes immediately. This time, nothing of that sort happened, and we did not imagine that water would rise so high. Several families are stranded on rooftops and on first and second floors with many children. Relief has not yet come,” complained Shaheen Begum, a resident.
