The government appoints Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, as the next Chief of the Naval Staff. He is Currently serving as FOC-in-C (Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief), Western Naval Command.

The present Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM will retire from service on May 31, 2026.

​On promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral, the Flag Officer was Chief of Staff of the Western Naval Command, Controller of Personnel Services and Chief of Personnel at NHQ. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff at Naval Headquarters.
