Expert committee recommends reducing CSE seats by 17%

In the backdrop of over 9000 CSE seats going vacant in State engineering colleges last academic year, the committee has recommended the reduction of CSE seats by 17% from 2026-27.

The expert committee headed by S. Sadagopan, formed to examine a proposal capping of Computer Science Engineering (CSE) seats, has recommended that intake of any private university/private engineering college in CSE and related courses or any stream cannot cross 900.

The committee, which has submitted its report to the Higher Education Department recently, has also recommended that institutions cannot start more than five computer science-related courses.
