It is important to design chemical processes that minimise waste and promote resource efficiency, said Ch. Subrahmanyam, a professor from the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad.

Participating in a conference on ‘Eco-Adaptive Research for Techno-Sustainable Harmony’ at S.R.R. & C.V.R. Government Degree College (Autonomous) in Vijayawada on Thursday, Mr. Subrahmanyam highlighted the need for developing recyclable, biodegradable, and sustainable materials to support the circular economy model. Scientists and professors from reputed universities in the country took part in the conference. Ravi Raj Vankayala, a professor of IIT Jodhpur, explained about innovative light-based technologies for diagnostics and therapeutic advancements.

P. Nagababu from CSIR-NEERI, Nagpur, focussed on sustainable approaches for environmental remediation and carbon management, while M. Basaveswara Rao, Rector, Krishna University, highlighted the crucial role of chemistry in shaping environmental sustainability and responsible technological advancement.

According to a release, the conference received 136 research abstracts from faculty members, researchers, and students based on themes such as clean energy technologies, sustainable and green materials, nanomaterials, circular economy, pollution-reducing bacteria, environmental remediation, and advanced materials for carbon dioxide reduction and wastewater treatment.

More than 150 faculty members and 150 students participated in the conference.
