The driver of a tanker carrying ethanol got burnt to death as flames erupted, after it was hit by a lorry on national highway 167 near Pilligundu of Hanwada mandal in Mahbubnagar district, nearly 110 kms from Hyderabad, around Wednesday (November 26, 2025) midnight.
Mahbubnagar Superintendent of Police, Janaki Dharavat, said the lorry carrying iron sheets was heading towards Tandur from Mahbubnagar when the accident occurred. “Preliminary inquiries and the versions of other vehicle drivers suggest that the tanker was being driven at high speed,” she said.
The lorry hit the left side of the tanker going towards Bengaluru. Passers-by rescued the lorry driver. “But the tanker, apparently at high speed, caught fire as it fell on the road and skidded for nearly 100 metres, “ the SP said having examined the accident spot.
The investigators believe the sparks emerging from the friction of the tanker hitting the road triggered flames. Within minutes, the entire vehicle got gutted. Four fire-tenders and several fire-men had to struggle for three hours to put out the flames.
