Eight people, including four women and four children, were killed while seven others were injured on Sunday (June 14, 2026) when a pick-up vehicle carrying them plunged into a roadside well in the Malshiras tehsil in Solapur district of Maharashtra, the police said.

Fifteen people were travelling in the vehicle when the incident occurred near Tandulwadi village, the police said.

“As per preliminary information, the pick-up vehicle carrying 15 people fell into a roadside well after the driver lost control. Eight people, including four women and four children, were killed, while seven others sustained injuries,” Atul Kulkarni, Superintendent of Police, Solapur, said.

The vehicle is being pulled out of the well, and the injured people were being rushed to the hospital, he said.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person.

Describing the accident as “extremely unfortunate and tragic”, Mr. Fadnavis said, “I offer my heartfelt condolences to the deceased and share the grief of their families.”

Seven people had been rescued and were currently undergoing treatment, the CM said.

The Solapur District Collector and Superintendent of Police immediately rushed to the accident site, and the State government was in constant touch with the local administration to monitor the situation, Mr. Fadnavis said.
