Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar stated that the coalition government has successfully revived the power sector, which had been weakened during the previous YSR Congress Party regime.

He said comprehensive power sector reforms implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu have helped DISCOMs secure improved ratings at the national level. The Minister expressed satisfaction over the high ratings awarded in the latest annual report of the Power Finance Corporation. He said the previous government had damaged the power sector for political gains, pushing DISCOMs into a debt trap and weakening their operations. Mr. Ravi Kumar recalled that the coalition government accorded top priority to the power sector immediately after assuming office. He said measures such as reducing technical and commercial losses, improving billing and collection efficiency, and ensuring timely release of government subsidies strengthened the financial and operational performance of DISCOMs. These reforms, he added, were the key reasons for the improved national ratings, reiterating the government’s commitment to supply quality power.
