West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has taken strong exception to remarks made by Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee remarks that “arms and ammunition are distributed in Raj Bhavan” and dared the MP and members of civil court to visit Raj Bhawan on Sunday (November 16, 2025) to verify the allegations.
“Raj Bhavan is open for the MP and members of the civil society and the journalists not exceeding 100 in numbers to visit Raj Bhavan immediately tomorrow (Sunday) morning from 5 am onwards and verify if any arms and ammunition are stocked as alleged by MP,” a statement from Raj Bhawan said on Saturday (November 15, 2025) evening.
The Raj Bhavan also added if the allegations are found to be untrue the “MP has the decent option to apologise to the people of Bengal and face prosecution for hate speech”.
The statement added that since the Kolkata Police is guarding Raj Bhavan “immediate inquiry may be held as to how they allegedly permitted arms and ammunition to be brought into the Raj Bhavan which is a threat to the Governor who is under Z plus category security and his Raj Bhavan staff”.
According to an official of the Raj Bhavan the Governor’s security officers advised him to leave the Raj Bhavan to a place of safety till the enquiry on illegal arms and ammunition is completed. “The Governor, however, said I will be in Raj Bhavan, come what may,” the official said.
The Trinamool Congress MP has made an unprecedented attack on the Governor, alleging that the Governor is “entertaining BJP criminals in Raj Bhavan and giving them arms and ammunition to go and attack TMC workers”
“Tell the Bengal Governor not to entertain BJP criminals in Raj Bhavan. He is keeping them there and giving them arms and ammunition to go and attack TMC workers. As long as such a governor is in office, nothing good will happen in Bengal,” the Sreerampur MP said.
Meanwhile the Raj Bhavan also “requested the Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha to conduct an inquiry into the matter since grave allegations are made by the Member of Lok Sabha”.
Differences between the Raj Bhavan, Kolkata, and the Trinamool Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have surfaced in the past as well but the allegations made by Mr. Kalyan Banerjee, alleging that Raj Bhavan was harbouring arms, has no precedence even in the politically charged atmosphere of West Bengal.
