The total number of patients affected by symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting in New Rajarajeswaripet of Vijayawada has reached 305 on Sunday (September 14). Out of them, 207 people have been discharged and 60 are undergoing treatment.

On Sunday, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha once again assured the public that all precautionary measures were being taken and that there was no need for alarm. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation was distributing pamphlets listing out the dos and don’ts for people. In addition to mineral water, a hygiene kit comprising handwash, ORS packets and a phenyl bottle is being distributed to every household in areas falling under 11 ward secretariats in New RR Peta.

People have been advised to follow instructions being given by the officials and those having diarrhoeal symptoms are advised to seek immediate medical help. People can call 91549 70454 for help.

Meanwhile, while the administration maintains that there have been no deaths due to diarrhoea, CPI(M) alleges that the toll in the recent episode of diarrhoeal outbreak is five. Demanding ex gratia for the deceased and compensation for those undergoing treatment in private hospitals, CPI(M) leader Ch. Babu Rao criticised the government for poor management of the situation.

He added that it is disappointing to note that even after almost a week, there has been no update on the cause of the problem.
