The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday alleged that the opposition Congress was behind recent protests in Leh, dismissing claims that the demonstrations were led by the “Gen Z” demographic.

BJP MP and spokesperson Sambit Patra, at a press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi, identified Congress councillor Stanzin Tsepag as the “instigator” of the protests.

The BJP office in Leh had witnessed protests demanding implementation of the Sixth Schedule for Ladakh and statehood, led by social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who recently ended a three-week fast on the issue. Violence erupted during the demonstrations, leaving several protestors injured.
