Three persons were arrested by the Banavaram police near Sholinghur town in Ranipet on Thursday for allegedly killing their relative over property dispute.
The arrested persons were identified as M. Netaji, 25; M. Surya, 23; and M. Arunachalam, 27. The deceased was identified as V. Uma, 44, the aunt of the accused brothers.
Initial inquiry revealed that T. Renu, 70, a farmer in Arasankuppam village, was living with his two sons, R. Munusamy, 55, and R. Vinayakam, 49. Police said Munusamy and Vinayakam had a dispute over sharing their father’s 10 acres of farmland. Renu reportedly pacified his sons over the dispute.
Police said the brothers and his family members again got into an argument over sharing the property and cash a few days ago. During the argument, Munusamy’s three sons thrashed Vinayakam and his wife, Uma, for demanding an equal share in the property and cash savings.
Police said Uma collapsed on the spot while Vinayakam was badly injured. Relatives and family members rushed the couple to the Government Taluk Hospital, where doctors declared Uma dead. Vinayakam was referred to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police said a case was registered and the three brothers were nabbed from their hideout in the village. They were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore, and further probe is under way.
