The Madras High Court on Wednesday (March 18, 2026) injuncted Amazon Seller Services, Flipkart Private Limited, Facebook, Instagram, and a host of other known and unknown entities from permitting unauthorised sale of merchandise with copyrighted works of Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar The Revenge slated to release on Thursday (March 19, 2026).

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy granted the interim injunction till April 15, 2026, pursuant to a John Doe suit (a case against known as well as unknown individuals) filed jointly by Reliance Industries Limited and B62 Studios Private Limited for alleged infringement of their copyright over the two movies.

Reliance Industries had produced Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar The Revenge through its media and entertainment division Jio Studios and thus, filed the suit against all those who were commercially exploiting the copyrighted works related to the two movies without authorisation.

The film producers did not want anyone to unauthorisedly use either the titles of the two movies, the character depictions, posters, visual imagery, dialogues, or other elements on their merchandise or goods sold for a profit either through Amazon, Flipkart, Facebook, Instagram, or their own websites.

Apart from Amazon Services, Flipkart Internet, and Meta Platforms, the suit had been filed against San Francisco-based Red Bubble Inc., New York-based TP Apparel LLC and Etsy Inc, Mumbai-based M2G Creations, Ahmedabad-based GIF VIF, Surat-based SN Enterprise, Nashik-based Turtlewings, and other unknown entities.

Justice Ramamoorthy ordered notices, returnable by April 15, 2026, to all the e-commerce platforms and other named entites seeking their response to the interim injunction application filed by the production house, and granted an ex-parte injunction till then since the plaintiffs feared that continued infringement of their copyright works would cause immense loss.

The production house also wanted Amazon, Flipkart, and Meta platforms to disclose the Know Your Customer (KYC) details of the traders who were selling on their platforms the merchandise and other goods by printing the title of the two movies, artistic works, character depictions, dialogues, and other visual imagery.

Block pirated versions

Passing interim orders on another civil suit filed by Reliance Industries, Justice Ramamoorthy granted an interim injunction restraining a host of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) spread across the country from permitting the hosting of pirated versions of Dhurandhar The Revenge scheduled to release on Thursday.

The judge directed the ISPs to block all the websites and webpages, including those that might crop up in the future, which unauthorisedly transmit pirated versions of the the sequel of Dhurandhar, thereby infringing the copyright held by the production house over the movie.
