The Transport Department, on Friday, announced that the permanent vehicle registration process can be initiated at the vehicle dealership from January 24.

Now, people will not have to visit Road Transport Authority (RTA) offices. The move comes after a successful testing of a newly-developed system.

According to officials, Honda ELEVATE ZX MT car was delivered to a customer by means of this new system. Given that the testing was deemed successful, the Transport Department announced that from January 24, new vehicles can be registered at the showroom without the owners having to visit RTA offices.

The new system requires the authorised dealer from whom the vehicle is purchased to submit the online application for permanent registration. The documents required are the invoice, Form 21, Form 22, insurance, address proof, and vehicle photographs. These will be uploaded online by the dealer.

A Transport Department official will verify the application and allot the registration number, and the Registration Certificate (RC) will be sent directly to the vehicle owner by Speed Post. The move saves time, does away with the need to visit RTO offices, and brings about transparency.
