Cyclone Montha: Over 9,700 people evacuated along Kakinada coast

Above 9,700 people, mostly fisherfolk, have been evacuated from the 67 villages in the 12 coastal Mandals along the Kakinada coast as relief operations are in full swing to avoid any loss due to cyclone Montha.

In a relief operation report, Kakinada District Collector S. Shan Mohan has stated: “Above 14 lakh people are expected to be affected along the Kakinada coast. 104 personnel from the NDRF and SDRF are engaged in the relief operations”.

Cyclone Montha updates on October 28, 2025

Three helipads are kept ready for airlifting of the needy apart from arranging 200 swimmers and 140 boats for the relief and rescue operation.

The stretch of Kakinada-Uppada-Thondangi has been on the alert as the coastline is vulnerable to erosion.

Cyclone Montha to Hit Andhra Coast Tonight | Red Alert in 16 Districts

Cyclone Montha is set to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada tonight as a severe cyclonic storm. The IMD has issued a red alert for 16 districts in Andhra Pradesh, warning of winds up to 110 kmph and heavy rainfall. Thousands have been evacuated, and CM Chandrababu Naidu has ordered zero-casualty preparedness.
