The doors of the historic Hasanamba Temple in Hassan were closed on Thursday (October 23, 2025), after traditional rituals, to mark the culmination of the Hasanamba festival, that began on October 9. The temple will remain closed until October 29, 2026.

The doors were locked up in the presence of Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, who is also minister in-charge of Hassan district, legislators, senior officers of the district and a few local people. The temple is opened for devotees only during the annual festival.

Increased footfall, greater revenue

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Krishna Byregowda said this year, 26,13,000 people got a darshana of the deity during the festival. The number of visitors was almost 8.5 lakh more than the footfall recorded last year. As many as 17.4 lakh people visited the temple last year.

The temple administration earned a revenue of ₹21.82 crore by way of selling tickets this year. Last year, the revenue earned through ticket sales was ₹9.68 crore. “Last year 1.4 lakh people had purchased entry tickets. This year 3.6 lakh people purchased the tickets, which is almost three times more than the last year’s number,” the Minister said. The revenue figures did not include the hundi collections.

Smooth and successful

The minister said the event was successful and common devotees from different parts of the state had a smooth darshana of the deity, though they had to stand in queues for a long time on many days. The cooperation of the elected representatives, the administration and the public was significant.

“This time, we had streamlined the entry of VIPs to the temple. The VIPs also cooperated the administration by adhering to the restrictions. In a couple of incidents, the VIPs, who arrived beyond the time meant for them, entered the temple by other queues meant for the public,” he stated.

Lok Sabha member Shreyas M. Patel, Arasikere MLA K.M. Shivalinge Gowda, Hassan MLA H.P. Swaroop, DC K.S. Lathakumari, Zilla Panchayat CEO B.R. Poornima, SP Mohammed Sujeetha and others were present.
