Union Minister of State and former West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday (November 27, 2025) faced protests at Diamond Harbour by a group of persons dressed in saffron and who identified themselves as BJP supporters.

While the Trinamool Congress called the protests an internal feud of BJP, Mr. Majumdar said that those protesting were Trinamool Congress supporters disguised as BJP workers.

“They are standing on the streets, dressed as BJP workers, wearing saffron turbans around their necks and tilaks on their foreheads, and are protesting! The person seen wearing saffron turbans in the picture is Raju, the Trinamool Congress leader from Diamond Harbour area,” Mr. Majumdar said on social media. The BJP MP also posted a photograph of a person who was leading the protest at a Trinamool Congress party office and said that he had joined the State’s ruling party.

The Trinamool Congress claimed that supporters of BJP leader Dilip Ghosh were protesting against Mr. Majumdar, as their internal war exploded on the streets of Diamond Harbour.

“A party that can’t control its own leaders… A party whose workers revolt against their own bosses… And they dare talk about “fixing” Bengal?” the Trinamool Congress said.

In another Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that the protests against Mr. Majumdar was an “extreme example of political bankruptcy”.

“BJP workers are connected to the grassroots, they know well who is a BJP worker and who has donned a disguise with dishonest intentions to mislead people. Secondly, one cannot become a BJP worker just by draping a saffron scarf on the body; it requires a lot of sacrifice and hard work, one has to endure a lot of hardship,” Mr. Adhikari said.

In the past several leaders of BJP have faced protests by supporters of Trinamool Congress and even faced attack, the latest being the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Sankar Ghosh on October 6, 2025 in North Bengal. The protests occurred at Diamond Harbour, the constituency represented by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee who won the last Lok Sabha polls by a margin of over seven lakh votes.

In another development Mr. Adhikari accused the Superintendent of Police of Purba Medinipur of working in collusion with the Trinamool Congress’s advisory body IPAC (Indian Political Action Committee). The BJP MLA from Nandigram said that BJP leaders from the constituency and their family members are being coerced to join Trinamool Congress.
