The Congress on Saturday (March 21, 2026) fielded T. Chalukumba Ao as its candidate for the by-election to the Koridang Assembly Constituency in Nagaland.

State Congress president S. Supongmeren Jamir formally handed over the symbol to Mr. Ao at the party’s State headquarters in the presence of working presidents Khriedi Theunuo and C. Apok Jamir.

Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, the State Congress chief said Mr. Ao would win the bypoll.

Accepting the nomination, Mr. Ao said he would file his papers on Monday (March 23, 2026) and begin an intensive campaign with the support of party leaders and grassroots workers to ensure victory.

The Congress does not have any MLA in the 60-member Nagaland Assembly. The last date for filing nominations is March 23, while polling for the by-election will be held on April 9.

The bypoll was necessitated following the death of five-time MLA Imkong L. Imchen. Imcheng, a BJP MLA, passed away at a Guwahati hospital on November 11, at the age of 75.
