Marking the second anniversary of the launch of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the Congress on Wednesday (January 14, 2026) said the nationwide march had played a significant role in placing the protection of democracy and the Constitution at the centre of public discourse, including during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign.

Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said the yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, helped foreground concerns relating to constitutional values, democratic institutions and social justice at a time of growing political polarisation.

He recalled that Mr. Gandhi began the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on January 14, 2024, from violence-affected Manipur and concluded it in Mumbai on March 16, 2024, after covering a distance of nearly 6,600 km over a period of about two months, traversing 15 States.

According to the Congress communications chief, the yatra sought to draw attention to issues of social, economic and political justice, while emphasising unity and constitutional morality.

“It is to the credit of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra that the protection of democracy and the Constitution of India became a central feature of the Lok Sabha 2024 election campaign and our public discourse today,” Mr. Ramesh said.

The yatra began amid ethnic violence in Manipur, with Mr. Gandhi asserting at the time that the Congress would present an alternative vision for the country rooted in harmony, fraternity and equality. He had said the march aimed to counter what the party described as divisive politics and an increasing concentration of economic and political power.

During the course of the yatra, Mr. Gandhi interacted with farmers, workers, students and civil society representatives, raising issues related to unemployment, price rise, social discrimination and federalism. Party leaders have since described the march as a continuation of the earlier Bharat Jodo Yatra, with a sharper focus on justice and constitutional safeguards.
