Andhra Pradesh Agriculture and Fisheries Minister K. Atchannaidu on Friday extended warm greetings to the fishermen and aqua farmers on the World Fisheries Day, and reaffirmed the coalition government’s unwavering commitment to their welfare.

Calling fisherfolk the “backbone of the nation’s economy,” Mr. Atchannaidu said the government was committed to protecting their livelihoods and improving their income opportunities through sustainable development.

He further said the government was working on providing local employment opportunities to prevent seasonal migration among fishermen. Given the State’s long coastline, coastal development initiatives were being prioritised to ensure long-term economic stability for fishing communities, he said.

Mr. Atchannaidu highlighted that several Central and State-coordinated programme were strengthening the fisheries and aqua sectors, including reduced electricity tariffs for aqua farmers and improved disaster warning systems.

He emphasised that Andhra Pradesh’s leading position in fish production was a result of these proactive measures. “The welfare, safety, and dignity of fisherfolk will always remain a top priority for the government,” he said.
