Congress, BJP nominees file papers for Jubilee Hills byelection

On the last day of filing of nominations for Jubilee Assembly constituency bypoll, Congress nominee V. Naveen Yadav and BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy filed their papers amid show of strength on Tuesday.

Speaking at a nomination rally for BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday asserted that the main contest in the Jubilee Hills Assembly byelection is between the BJP and AIMIM. He alleged that the Congress had lost the confidence of the people and that the party is pretending to be in the election fray by selecting a candidate who had earlier contested elections on the AIMIM ticket. Mr. Rao said the party had made grand promises for Hyderabad’s development but failed to deliver on its six guarantees and 420 election pledges. He accused the party of trying to mislead Jubilee Hills voters with ‘false election propaganda’.

Mr. Yadav, accompanied by four Congress leaders, submitted his papers. The contest has drawn a wide range of candidates — from major political parties to independents, including farmers affected by the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project and leaders representing local unemployed associations.

TPCC appeal to Kodandaram

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud on Tuesday wrote a letter to Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) president M. Kodandaram, seeking his party’s support for the Congress in the Jubilee Hills Assembly byelection scheduled for November 11.

In the letter, the TPCC chief requested Mr. Kodandaram to extend solidarity to Congress candidate Naveen Yadav and contribute to his victory.

Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud said it was time to analyse the public’s response to the 22-month Congress rule in Telangana and added that all sections of society were content under the people’s government led by the party. Emphasising that the Congress had restored faith in democratic governance, he appealed to Mr. Kodandaram to join hands in ensuring the success of the party in the byelection.

Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud made a scathing attack on BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, accusing his family of large-scale corruption. Condemning Mr. Rama Rao’s remarks describing the AICC as the ‘All India Corruption Committee’, he said Mr. Rama Rao should first clarify his own family’s record before levelling allegations against others.
