Congress-backed candidates have gained control of the Bengaluru District Central Co-operative (BDCC) Bank, winning 15 out of the 18 seats in the elections held on Sunday. The victory is being viewed as a significant boost for the ruling party’s cooperative sector influence in the region.

Announcing the results at a press conference held at the BDCC Bank office in Chamarajpet on Sunday, Bangalore Urban, Rural and Ramanagara District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Societies Union Limited (BAMUL) president D.K. Suresh said the success was achieved under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

According to Mr. Suresh, Congress-backed candidates secured seats across Ramanagara (2), Channapatna (1), Kanakapura (2), and Magadi (2) in Bengaluru Rural district. In Bengaluru Urban district, the party registered victory in Hoskote (2), Devanahalli (1), Doddaballapur (1), Anekal (1), and Bengaluru North (1). Another seat was won with the support of H.M. Revanna, he said.

Meanwhile, the BJP secured two seats –  in Nelamangala and Solur –  with the support of Congress members in those constituencies.

Mr. Suresh credited the victory to the coordinated efforts of senior Ministers Ramalinga Reddy, K.H. Muniyappa, Krishna Byre Gowda, and several MLAs including B. Shivanna, Sharath Bachegowda, Iqbal Hussain, Balakrishna, C.P. Yogeshwar, and N. Srinivas, as well as local leaders R.K.  Ramesh and Venkataramappa. He also thanked cooperative members and even the defeated candidates for their support.

“BDCC Bank has a long history and holds a prominent position in the State capital. The bank has witnessed many ups and downs but has now been functioning with improved governance. It covers 36 Assembly constituencies across Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Bengaluru City districts,” he said.

Promising to strengthen the functioning of the cooperative bank, Mr. Suresh said the new board would work towards providing better services and facilities to farmers and citizens under its jurisdiction.
