MLCs Jayamangala Venkataramana, Karri Padmasri, Balli Kalyan Chakravarthi, Zakia Khanam, Pothula Sunitha and Marri Rajasekhar, who quit the YSR Congress and resigned from the Legislative Council after the party’s electoral setback last year but whose resignations are yet to be accepted, met Council Chairman K. Moshenu Raju on Monday urging him to take an early decision. However, Ms Khanam has reportedly withdrawn her resignation after the meeting, following the Chairman’s observation that only six months remained in her term and that pressing for acceptance at this stage served little purpose. She submitted a letter accordingly.

The leaders noted that some among them had since joined other parties. They reminded Mr Raju that he was required to act on their resignations as per norms, taking into account their repeated submissions that their decisions were voluntary and unchanged. They appealed to him to expedite the process, stressing that the delay had already become inordinate.

They reiterated that they had resigned of their own accord, without influence or inducement, and underscored that doing so was an exercise of a constitutional right.

Mr Venkataramana, who had moved the High Court over the pendency of his resignation submitted in November 2024, informed the Chairman that the court, in its order on November 27, 2025, had termed the prolonged inaction illegal, arbitrary and violative of Article 14 of the Constitution. He said the court directed the Chairman to complete the inquiry and take a decision preferably within two weeks, or within a month at the most, as provided under the Thirty-third Constitutional Amendment.

Speaking later to the media, the former YSR Congress leaders said they were unable to understand the Chairman’s reluctance to act on their resignations and expressed hope that he would now comply with the court’s direction. His continued inaction, they remarked, amounted to an abuse of process.
