Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener T.P. Ramakrishnan has expressed confidence that the front will secure a resounding victory in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections.
He was speaking to media persons after the LDF review meeting here on Friday. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reviewed the results of the local body elections and discussed strategies to counter the Union government’s continuing “economic blockade” of the State.
Mr. Ramakrishnan said that while the LDF government had implemented many development projects and welfare initiatives for the people, it seemed that these achievements in governance were not properly communicated to the people.
He also blamed the UDF and BJP of unleashing a misinformation campaign maligning the LDF and creating a communal polarisation. Certain sections of the media also lend credence to these deliberate lies, he said, all of which had worked against the LDF.
‘Will go to the people’
The LDF will go to the people, understand what fell short during the local body polls and make necessary rectifications. The LDF’s foundation was strong and there was nothing to prevent the front from making a strong comeback in the Assembly polls.
Mr. Ramakrishnan said that the LDF was planning to organise three rallies in the north, central and southern districts, to campaign against the anti-people policies of the Centre and to create awareness on the manner in which the Centre was imposing a financial squeeze on the government.
The CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan will lead the rally through 60 Assembly constituencies in the north, while the Kerala Congress (M) chairman, Jose K. Mani will lead the rally in 33 Central districts. The CPI State secretary, Binoy Viswam will lead the rally through 47 constituencies in the south.
On January 12, the Chief Minister, Ministers and the Left MLAs will organise a protest at the Martyrs’ column in the capital to protest against the manner in which the Centre was economically strangling the State.
