A 46-year-old woman undergoing treatment at the Kannur Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) at Pariyaram was found dead on Thursday morning (November 13, 2025).

The deceased has been identified as E.K. Leena of 7th Mile, Kottayam grama panchayat, in Kannur. Hospital sources said she was found hanging in the bathroom of Ward 401 around 9.15 a.m. Though she was given emergency medical attention, her life could not be saved.

Leena, wife of Santosh, had been admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night after she reportedly consumed an overdose of pills. The police said she had been undergoing treatment for mental illness.

The body has been shifted to the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. The Pariyaram police have registered a case and has launched an inquiry.
