Coffee Board of India has opened Indian Coffee House Kiosk on its office premise in Bengaluru to offer structured training to promote women’s empowerment in the coffee sector.

Set up under the Coffee Board’s Atal Incubation Centre – Central Coffee Research Institute, Center for Entrepreneurship Development (AIC–CCRI–CED), the kiosk is aimed at offering training and promoting entrepreneurship among women in various activities related to coffee growing, coffee processing and coffee retailing, according to Coffee Board.

The programme was designed to train 400 Women Self-Help Group (SHG) members registered under the National Livelihood Mission as Master Trainers in coffee brewing and café management skills. These trainers, in turn, would cascade their knowledge to empower another 1,00,000 SHG members over the coming year, with continued support from AIC–CCRI–CED and ecosystem partners, according to the board.

At the inaugural of the kiosk, Coffee Board Chairperson M.J. Dinesh highlighted the upcoming centenary celebrations of the Central Coffee Research Institute, Balehonnur.

To observe International Coffee Day, Coffee Board, in collaboration with the Specialty Coffee Association of India (SCAI), organised a coffee awareness initiative titled ‘Walk with Coffee’ — a walkathon held between M.G. Road to the Coffee Board office. Some 400 coffee enthusiasts participated in the run.
