“If a full-fledged alliance is formed under actor Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), it will pose a challenge to the DMK coalition,” he said

Tamil Nadu may witness a coalition government after the 2026 Assembly elections as no single party is expected to secure an absolute majority, said Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran here on Wednesday (December 10, 2025).

Addressing the media, he said that while all political parties aspire to come to power, the emerging situation in the State indicates the possibility of coalition rule. “Whatever the alliance, no party is likely to secure a majority. A coalition government will be inevitable,” he said. Mr. Dhinakaran added,“If a full-fledged alliance is formed under actor Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), it will pose a challenge to the DMK coalition.”

Clarifying his recent meeting with former BJP president K. Annamalai, he said it was not political. “We met in Coimbatore as long-time friends. There was nothing political in it,” he said. Responding to Mr. Annamalai’s allegation that 125 Hindu temples had been demolished, he said he did not wish to comment without knowing the facts. Political organisations should function in a manner that avoids creating unnecessary issues among people living beyond religious boundaries, he said.

Mr. Dhinakaran added that all loyal followers of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa must unite under one front. “You know O. Panneerselvam’s position,” he remarked. Commenting on the law-and-order situation, he said murders and robberies had increased due to the spread of drug culture and the lack of safety for women.

He said alliance decisions would be announced in two months and added that some parties were in talks with the AMMK for a possible alliance but declined to reveal their names.
