As many as 10,922 voters in the 85-plus and persons with disabilities (PwD) categories exercised the home voting option in Kerala on Monday with the Election Commission of India (EC) launching the facility as part of the April 9 Assembly polls.

The number included 7,561 voters aged above 85 and 3,361 voters in PwD category, according to an 8 p.m. update from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala).

A total of 2,227 polling teams were deployed on Monday (April 30, 2026).

In all, 2,07,757 voters in both categories have opted for the facility in the State. The EC has approved 1,45,592 applications of voters in the 85-plus category and 62,220 applications of PwD voters for availing the option.

Voters are informed about the schedule in advance and a team of polling officials will visit their residence to help them cast their vote. The EC provides this option under Section 60(c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, so that the two categories of voters can cast their vote through postal ballot. Home voting will be completed by April 5. Candidates are also informed about the visits of the polling teams, so that they can depute their representative to accompany them.
