A civil society group comprising former civil servants, judges, lawyers, journalists, social activists, and religious leaders, have raised serious concern over the mode in which legislative assembly election was recently held in Bihar.

In an open letter, the group stated that the Special Intensive Revision, which according to the Election Commission of India was based on a similar exercise held in 2003, had in fact no resemblance to it. The rejection process and the final voters’ list bore no accountability or any explanation for its opacity. The manipulated process provided an intentionally biased, ‘sanitised’ list with lakhs disenfranchised. The next challenge, the group said, would be to take up the SIR issue that is to be extended to the next 12 States.
