A group of Christian leaders, along with representatives from SC, ST, OBC and minority communities, has strongly criticised the BJP-led Centre’s proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which has been deferred in the Lok Sabha.

In a memorandum addressed to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and signed by clergy from various Christian denominations under the aegis of the All Indian Christian Council, the leaders termed the Bill “constitutionally flawed”. They warned that provisions allowing a “designated authority” to act without judicial oversight could enable the takeover of Christian and minority institutions whose FCRA licences are not renewed. They cited the temporary cancellation of the Missionaries of Charity’s licence in 2021 as precedent.
