Chitradurga accident: Driver of sleeper bus dies, increasing toll to seven

Six people died and several suffered injuries in an accident near Javanagondanahalli in Hiriyur taluk early morning on Thursday (December 25, 2025). The sleeper bus caught fire after it was hit by a truck.

The driver of the private sleeper bus, who was seriously injured in the accident at Javanagondanahalli in Chitradurga district on Thursday (December 25, 2025), died in a hospital in Hubbali on Friday (December 26, 2025). With that, the total number of deaths in the accident increased to seven.

Mohammed Rafeek, 38, a native of Hulagur village of Shiggaon taluk in Haveri district, was admitted to KIMS in Hubballi after he suffered injuries. He breathed his last early morning on Friday (December 26, 2025), according to Chitradurga SP Ranjit Kumar Bandaru. He was initially treated at Hiriyur, then referred to Chitradurga Government Hospital. Later, his relatives took him to KIMS in Hubballi.

Rafeek was driving the sleeper bus, which was hit by a container truck near Javanagondanahalli. Five passengers and the driver of the truck died at the spot on Thursday (December 25, 2025). The truck had hit the fuel tank, causing a fire.
