Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday (April 06) vowed to complete all pending irrigation projects in the State and asserted that his government would restart the Pranahita-Chevella project at Tummidihatti in ertswhile Adilabad district.
Addressing a largely attended “Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika” public meeting at Pipri in Boath Constituency and also to commemorate the three years of ‘People’s March’ undertaken by the then Congress Legislature Party leader and present Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Mr. Reddy said: “From this platform, I promise that we will not only complete pending irrigation projects but we will restart the Pranahita–Chevella project at Tummidihatti. Providing irrigation water to Adilabad and turning this region lush and fertile is our responsibility.”
Specifically referring to the developmental works planned for erstwhile undivided Adilabad district, Mr. Reddy said the government planned to lay the foundation stone for Adilabad Airport, tentatively, by June 2, . “We will develop the Adilabad region into an industrial hub,” he said and pointed out that the land acquisition for this purpose is progressing rapidly.
He also pointed out that the government has initiated land acquisition for a university in Adilabad. “Very soon, we will lay the foundation stone for the establishment of the university,” he said.
The Chief Minister, referring to the land of tribal warrior Komaram Bheem — who ignited the spirit of struggle with the slogan “Jal, Jungle aur Jameen” while fighting for the resolution of people’s issues — said the protests in Nirmal as PCC president, the Indravelli Dandora movement, or Bhatti Vikramarka’s People’s March padayatra all made impact.
“Our fears turned into courage and inspired us to continue our struggle for achieving people’s welfare in the days that we were in the Opposition,” he said pointing out that no matter how many cases were filed against the Congress leaders, they fought relentlessly and brought the Congress to power.
He made it clear that politics exist only during elections. “When it comes to development, we move forward by taking everyone along. That is why we invited people beyond party lines to these meetings,” he noted. “”In the last 10 years, have you ever seen such a tradition in Telangana? This tradition must continue. I congratulate all friends who stood together for development,” Mr. Reddy remarked.
The Chief Minister said even when there are no Congress MLAs, the government had sanctioned Young India Integrated Schools. “Even without our MLAs, we are taking development forward, ensuring that people do not suffer. We have never said that development will happen only if you vote for Congress. We do not look at parties; we look at people’s hardships and implement welfare schemes,” he said.
The Chief Minister also spoke about free RTC bus travel for women and claimed that the government spent ₹10,000 crore on free travel for the women. He also said the Government was providing 200 units of free electricity to the poor and was in the process of spending ₹22,500 crore, towards construction of sanctioned 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses.
Concluding his speech, he said the government was preparing assessments of everything that Adilabad district needs. “I will visit this district once every two months, bringing funds continuously,” he said.
