According to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Ajit Kumar Patra, in conspiracy with his associate, posed as a high-ranking official of various government departments, ministries, enforcement agencies, and the judiciary.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an alleged conman, along with his accomplice, for orchestrating an impersonation and bribery racket purportedly involving senior public servants and private individuals.
The accused persons have been identified as “conman” Ajit Kumar Patra and Minku Lal Jain. The agency has conducted searches in Delhi, Odisha, and Rajasthan. Two more persons have been held.
According to the CBI, Mr. Patra, in conspiracy with his associate, posed as a high-ranking official of various government departments, ministries, enforcement agencies, and judiciary.
“The duo allegedly exploited these false identities to gain undue favours in exchange for illegal gratification. Investigation revealed that the accused, while frequently claiming proximity to senior government officials, used name-dropping tactics to intimidate and manipulate targets,” said the CBI on Tuesday (November 11, 2025).
The accused reportedly enjoyed “unwarranted VIP protocol/privileges, stay in official houses, access to restricted high security zones at public events and religious gatherings” by misrepresenting themselves as high-ranking officials.
“A raid was conducted by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Jaipur, on November 4, 2025, on the premises of Vinod Parihar, chief executive officer of Cybdeer Network Private Limited. In a bid to evade arrest, Mr. Parihar allegedly contacted the accused, who demanded and obtained ₹18 lakh to ‘settle’ the matter with unknown officials of DGGI, Jaipur,” said the agency.
On November 10, the two accused were caught in Delhi while receiving ₹18 lakh from one Jagjit Singh Gill, sent by Mr. Parihar. The cash was impounded. “Mr. Gill was also apprehended, and Mr. Parihar was held in Jaipur,” said an official.
Subsequent searches led to the seizure of about ₹3.7 crore in cash, gold jewellery weighing around 1 kg, 26 property documents in the name of Mr. Patra and his relatives, four luxury vehicles and 12 other vehicles, besides documents and digital devices.
