Burglars decamped with 21 sovereigns of gold jewellery, two kg of silver objects and ₹15,000 cash from the house of a dairy farmer in Kalathur village near Walajah town in Ranipet on Wednesday.

The police said S. Palani, 50, and his wife P. Parasakthi, 48, had gone to their relative’s house in Kancheepuram on May 31 to attend a family function.

The police said that the couple noticed gold earrings on the floor of the house. They checked the cupboard and found the valuables missing. The couple also found that the door on the staircase was broken.

On being informed, Avalur police visited the house with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. The police have taken CCTV camera footage along the route. Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Sibin has formed special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered. A probe is under way.
