Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Telangana, to strictly enforce guidelines and remove duplicate voter registrations during the forthcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls beginning June 25 in the State.
In a representation submitted to the CEO, Telangana, C. Sudharshan Reddy, the party stressed that accurate electoral rolls are essential for free and fair elections. A delegation, comprising Dasoju Sravan Kumar, Karne Prabhakar, Ravula Chandrashekar Reddy and others met the CEO.
The BRS flagged concerns over duplicate voter entries arising from migration, particularly in urban areas such as Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Secunderabad, which attract people from various States. It noted that some individuals may be enrolled in Telangana while retaining their names in their native States, leading to multiple registrations.
The party further called for transparency in the revision process, including sharing information on additions, deletions and corrections with recognised political parties, and providing them an opportunity to raise objections.
Emphasising accountability, the BRS urged the Commission to take action against officials found negligent in implementing guidelines and to ensure periodic reviews of the revision exercise.
