The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) accused the Congress Government in Telangana of attempting to divide the Hyderabad metropolitan region arbitrarily and without technical study, and announced plans for large-scale protests against the move.
The BRS leaders alleged that the Bill related to the division of Greater Hyderabad was introduced in the Winter Session of the Assembly without adequate discussion and vowed to launch a public agitation against what they described as an arbitrary and ill-conceived move.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Saturday (January 3, 2026), former Minister and BRS Legislature Party deputy leader, T. Srinivas Yadav, alleged that the historic Hyderabad–Secunderabad twin cities were being split ‘at will’ ignoring their cultural and historical significance.
He said the proposed division appeared to have been done without proper planning or consultation with public representatives.
Claiming that the Government had failed to seek the views of MLAs, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor or corporators, Mr. Yadav said the BRS would stage protests on January 17 at Secunderabad Railway Station and other locations, along with supporting parties. He demanded the formation of a separate Secunderabad Corporation and warned of legal action against the Government’s decision.
He alleged that the move would inconvenience citizens by forcing them to travel across the city for routine administrative work and accused the Government of creating confusion in the name of administrative reforms. He also criticised the functioning of the Assembly, alleging bias by the Speaker and suppression of opposition voices.
The BRS Assembly Whip, K.P. Vivekanand, said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was insensitive to public sentiment and accused the Government of lacking experience in handling metropolitan administration. He claimed that even Congress legislators had expressed reservations over the proposed division and pointed out that there was no Minister from Greater Hyderabad.
