The Bombay High Court on Wednesday (April 29, 2026) ordered the release of Sharad Kalaskar, a convict in the 2013 murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, while noting doubts over his identification as the assailant. A Division Bench of Justice Ajay Gadkari and Justice Ranjitsinha Bhonsale directed him to furnish a bail bond of ₹50,000.

The Bench was hearing an interim application filed by Mr. Kalaskar, who had appealed against his conviction by a special court in 2024. He sought bail until the appeal is disposed of.
