The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold a protest in Yadgir on Thursday demanding proper distribution of compensation to farmers who have lost crops owing to rain and floods, BJP district unit president Basavarajappa Vibhutihalli has said.

Addressing a press conference in Yadgir on Tuesday, he said that the district’s farmers have suffered crop loss due to heavy rain and floods.

A lakh acres of agricultural fields with cotton and other crops have suffered damage. However, the State government has not yet released compensation to the distressed farmers.

The BJP will stage the protest against the State government’s negligence and urge that the compensation be released immediately.

He also said that procurement centres for red gram and paddy have not yet been opened despite the demand from farmers. “We also demand the opening of procurement centres,” he added.

Rachanagouda Mudnal, Mahesh Mudnal and others were present.
