The BJP strongly condemned thenegligent attitude of the Congress government in releasing pending fee reimbursement dues and has extended full support to the private college management associations decision for a shutdown of colleges.

Telangana party president and former MLC N. Ramchander Rao said that due to the mounting dues to the tune of about 8,000 crore, the government had not released a single rupee in the last two years. The colleges are unable to pay salaries to their staff and this has led to a situation where private colleges are being temporarily shut down.

He noted that the Congress during the last Assembly elections had promised to provide ₹5 lakh ‘Vidya Bharosa’ cards to students. However, this promise remains unfulfilled. While the responsibility to protect the education system lies with the Telangana government, the current situation is pushing the system toward collapse, charged the BJP leader.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, during a visit to Osmania University, had promised to allocate ₹1,000 crore in funds yet, the State is now in a situation where even retired teachers are not receiving pensions, he said. Mr. Rao said that it is not acceptable that new universities are being established without even basic infrastructure like buildings.
