The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have come together to form the government in the Latur Zilla Parishad in Maharshtra, with BJP’s Usha Sambhaji Patil-Talegaonkar elected as the president. NCP’s Dayanand Damodar Surwase was sworn-in as the vice-president.

Latur Additional District Collector Shilpa Karmarkar presided the election for the top post, where Ms. Patil-Talegaonkar and Mr. Surwase, both received 34 votes each. Congress candidates Deepali Bhosale and Nageshwari Kendre lost with 25 votes each, as per officials.

To win the position of president, the political parties needed to cross the mark of 30 in the 59-member body. The Zilla Parishad elections were held on February 7 and appointment of the president concluded on March 16.

According to the officials, four nominations were filed for the post of president from the Mahayuti and three from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

Dayanand Damodar Suravase was Mahayuti’s candidate for the post of V-P, while Nageshwari Sachin Kendra, Ashwini Shinde, and Mukesh Bhalerao were MVA’s candidates.

Ushabai Sambhaji Patil Talegaonkar, who became the fourth woman president of Latur Zilla Parishad is a resident of Talgeva in Deoni taluka and the daughter of Sahakar Maharshi Late Ramchandrarao Patil Talegaonkar.

Dayanand Suravase is a resident of Jhari Navkund in Chakur taluka and has been elected from the Janval Zilla Parishad group (Nationalist Ajit Pawar group).
