The capital city construction works are going on at a brisk pace, and are poised to be completed in the stipulated time-frame despite YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party leaders making renewed efforts to stall the project with mala fide intentions, asserts Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister P. Narayana.

“The Amaravati project is being talked about in the neighbouring States for its speed and global standards,” Mr. Narayana said while addressing the media persons after participating in a review meeting held by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on MA&UD at his camp office on Saturday.

Mr. Narayana said baseless allegations continued to be made by the YSRCP leaders regarding the construction of the Amaravati, which they did in the past.

He recalled that Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy had stated on the floor of the Legislative Assembly that the capital city required at least 30,000 acres, but went on to propose three capitals after YSRCP took the reins from TDP in 2019.

Nevertheless, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy failed to implement his own ideas. As a consequence, everything that had been initiated and given a tangible shape by Mr. Naidu had been ruined.

Mr. Narayana said Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy was ignorant of the difference between river bed and a river basin, but commented that the constructions were being done in the river bed in Amaravati. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy should know that cities around the world came up in the river basins, so was Amaravati.

The Secretariat under construction in Amaravati would have offices of the Ministers, Heads of Departments and Corporations, all in one place, including the employees. The construction of Amaravati was delayed by a year (after the TDP-led alliance came to power in 2024) as the new government had to sort out the legal issues, close tenders in respect of works that were abandoned, and set several other things right, the Minister added.
